Willikies Students Encouraged to Stay Healthy

Students at Willikies Primary School are expected to lead healthier lives after recently participating in Grand Pineapple Resort’s Health Day.

A number of officials engaged students in health talks on proper eating habits, exercising, good hygienic practices, among other topics.

Organizer of the activity, Environment, Health and Safety Manager at Grand Pineapple, Khadijah Abdulwudud explains, “The students participated in practical sessions of recording body temperature, listening to the sounds of the heartbeat, and checking their blood pressure.”

“Students also used the opportunity to learn about the various medical instruments, such as stethoscopes, a sphygmomanometer, watch and the digital and manual thermometers. This was the highlight of the session and it was great to see the level of interest”, Abdulwudud further noted.

The health session was a platform where students could learn from each other and were taught the benefits of helping people regain their health. As a result, some of the youth are now looking to the healthcare system as a possible area to pursue their career in the future.

Nurse Eletha George led the presentations and highlighted the importance of her role as a nurse.

Grand Pineapple Resort officially adopted Willikies Primary School in 2009 and has implemented several initiatives to the benefit and development of the students and community at large.
