Sandals Foundation Cricket Academy 2015 Bowls Off on Tuesday at Sir Viv Richards Stadium

The Sandals Foundation High Performance Cricket Academy will resume in Antigua and Saint Lucia on Tuesday August 11, marking its 5th year of promoting and enhancing the sport at the grassroots level.
As part of a partnership with the governments of Antigua & Barbuda and Saint Lucia, this year’s program will see the participation of some 50 youngsters from across the Caribbean gathering for one week of intense training in each of the two islands.
The young players, from various schools and clubs, will be housed at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds and the Beausejour Cricket Grounds in Antigua and Saint Lucia respectively.
In keeping with its high performance mandate, the groups will undergo one week of intense cricket skills development sessions and training, and life skills sessions facilitated by highly qualified current and former legendary West Indies Cricket players and coaches.
The fundamentals of batting, bowling and fielding will comprise the majority of the day-time sessions, while life skills training will occupy the young athletes during the evening.
Director of Programs for the Sandals Foundation Heidi Clarke said the initiative of investing in the continued development of Cricket in the Caribbean is one that will always have a place with the company’s philanthropic arm.
“We remain committed to the development of young people across the Caribbean, especially through a sport like cricket which unites our islands in ways that many other sports has been unable to do in the region,” Clarke said.
The Sandals Foundation Cricket Academy comes with the support of partner governments offering critical backing for the camps by providing assistance with venues, transportation and accommodation.
Players have been known to use the camp as an opportunity to measure their own individual talent against that of a broader pool of young elites in the Caribbean.
The program will conclude on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in both territories.
