Sandals Foundation Builds Music Room for Willikies Primary

The musical talents of students at the Willikies Primary School are expected to improve significantly now that they have a music room to practice in, thanks to the Sandals Foundation.

Trinity Builders completed the music room which was then officially unveiled last week during a handover ceremony attended by officials from the Ministry of Education, General Manager Fernand Zievinger and staff of Grand Pineapple Antigua, principal, teachers, students and Sandals Foundation team members.

In his remarks, Principal Mr. Denmore Roberts expressed appreciation to the Grand Pineapple team and Sandals Foundation for their continued support. “We here at Willikies Primary are very fortunate to have such a great relationship with Grand Pineapple and Sandals Foundation. Over the years they have provided us with schools supplies, have installed water catchment systems, educate our children through the weekly Reading Road Trip and now this music room.”

Representing the Ministry of Education was Educational Officer for Zone 2 Ms. Alvacia Burton, who commended the Sandals Foundation for its contribution to nation building. “I want to say a special thank you to the Sandals Foundation because as a corporate entity you have continuously helped us to do our job in educating young people in Antigua and Barbuda. You have built a lunch shed, volleyball court, libraries and you continue to develop skills through scholarships, the Rockersville Basketball League and the Cricket Academy. I could go on and on.”

Burton added, “Because of your efforts today, the Willikies Primary School can now expand its curriculum to include a music programme which will help to make our nation’s students more rounded.”

The music room is currently outfitted with pans which the students used to play the song “I Give You Thanks” to those in attendance at the unveiling ceremony.
