March 30th deadline for 2014 CHTA Education Foundation Scholarship applications fast approaching

Over $150,000 in Scholarship Funds Available for Tourism & Hospitality Students

The March 30, 2014 deadline to apply for the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) scholarship program is fast approaching.  CHTAEF urges all Caribbean tourism and hospitality students and professionals who require financial assistance to pursue their dreams of achieving and advancing their career in the tourism and hospitality field.

The absolute deadline for applications is March 30, 2014 at 5 pm Eastern Caribbean Time.  Full details can be found at on the CHTAEF website or by contacting the AHTA.

Applications must be submitted with the approval of the applicant’s local hotel association in order to be considered.

Scholarship recipients will be advised of their approval status and, if accepted, the amount of their award, no earlier than May 25, 2014.

“Far too many people put off education and training because of financial constraints,” said Richard S. Kahn, chairman of CHTAEF.

“Many scholarship recipients have gone on to achieve great success, but it only works if those who need it take advantage,” said Kahn, urging industry partners and media to spread the word on the opportunities available.

In 2013, CHTAEF awarded 24 scholarships totaling US$154,500 to Caribbean nationals pursuing higher education or professional development in hospitality and tourism after receiving 48 qualified applications from 13 countries.

CHTAEF awards worthy Caribbean nationals who demonstrate a strong commitment to the hospitality and tourism industry, proving the potential for future success, with scholarship money to enhance or further their expertise.  This includes academic tuition scholarships, short-course professional development tuition scholarships, work experience placement opportunities, and grants for tourism and hospitality teachers for furthering their education or to gain industry work experience.

Sponsors include Virgin Holidays, Interval International, FirstCaribbean International Bank, Johnson & Wales University, Florida International University, Monroe College and University of Memphis.
