Beaches to Attract More Airlift

Antigua can look forward to additional air traffic from Canada when the Beaches resort opens on island.

During a recent press trip to Beaches Turks and Caicos, Air Canada Leisure Group’s President and CEO, Friisdah Michael told journalists that the airline plans to add more capacity to its flights going into Antigua.

“We have a 32-year relationship with the Sandals Group and over that time we have seen the demand for Beaches and Sandals, so wherever there is a Sandals product, people will want to travel to that country.

“Sometimes we have up to 30 seats being booked by one family going to Beaches. Sandals was and continues to be the catalyst for extra seats going into countries where it operates”, the Air Canada boss further stated.

Michael also believes that with Sandals and Beaches having such a high percentage of returning guests and good occupancy all year round, this guarantees bookings for Air Canada.

Meanwhile, Sandals Chairman the Hon. Gordon “Butch” Stewart noted, “It’s a win-win situation and Antigua is definitely going to win since the Beaches product is known around the world for its quality service, plus we already have Sandals and with the beautiful island and warmth of the people, Antigua, Air Canada and the Sandals Group will all benefit tremendously.”
