Award-winning film producer makes donation to National Library

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority hosted Award-winning film producer, Patrick Baucelin, on a recent visit to Antigua to promote his latest documentary, ‘Cities of the Caribbean’.

The seventy minute documentary, produced in English, French and Spanish, features Antigua’s capital city of St. John’s, and twenty-nine other Caribbean cities.

During his one-day promotional tour, Baucelin who is from Martinique, paid a courtesy call on the Antigua and Barbuda National Library where he presented copies of the DVD to Library officials.  Fifth form history students of the Princess Margaret School were also given the opportunity to meet with Baucelin, and receive the DVD.

Baucelin said, “It is important that the people of the Caribbean become exposed to, and more knowledgeable on their neighbouring Caribbean islands.”  He noted that, “while the film can be used as a promotional tool, its prime purpose is to educate, and encourage deeper cultural exchange within the Caribbean.”

The film captures Caribbean cities and their architecture from showcasing monuments to churches; it focuses on the people and their way of life within bustling towns and markets.

Marketing Manager at the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Charmaine Spencer said, “‘Cities of the Caribbean’ is a great resource tool for students at both the primary and secondary level.  It is an engaging film, which will pique the interest of students and viewers eager to explore and learn about other Caribbean Islands. The availability of the DVD in French and Spanish also makes it excellent teaching material for students learning these foreign languages.”

In addition, Spencer noted that, “as the DVD is being freely distributed within the Caribbean, Antigua will gain tremendously from the regional exposure.”

‘Cities of the Caribbean’ is free for schools, libraries and educational organizations.  The documentary which took four years to produce was funded by the European Union. The DVD was released in March 2014.  Baucelin’s previous work includes the internationally acclaimed, ‘Secrets of the Fortresses of the Caribbean.’
