Antigua and Barbuda Doubles Miami Airlift this Winter with American Airlines

St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda (March 29, 2018) – Antigua and Barbuda will benefit from an additional daily flight with American Airlines from Miami during the upcoming winter season.

The expanded service from Miami to Antigua, will take effect on December 19, 2018 with the American Airlines flight available for sale online, this Saturday March 31, 2018.

Minister of Tourism, The Hon. Charles Fernandez said, “The new flight will allow Antigua and Barbuda to benefit from more convenient non-stop flight options and is expected to stimulate a significant increase in stay-over visitors. American Airlines will now provide greater access to our visitors traveling from the West coast of the US and open up further options for persons interested in shorter weekend getaways to Antigua and Barbuda. The later flight time will also allow for increased and easier connections for international passengers from the UK who previously had difficulty making connections into Antigua and Barbuda.”

The additional flight, will take airlift available on American Airlines from 1 to 2 daily flights. American Airlines have announced that flights are expected to depart Miami for Antigua 17:40-21:56 and Antigua to Miami 09:00-11:37. The American Airlines flights will operate using the Boeing 737-800.

This increase comes, following two years of negotiations with American Airlines officials and Antigua and Barbuda’s Airline Committee.

CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin C. James said, “Part of our tourism developmental plans involves growing existing airlift and exploring new airlift opportunities for the destination. We have had ongoing discussions with airline partners where we highlighted our tourism plans and the significant growth to come for the destination with new hotel investments designed to meet the needs of visitors.”

“With new properties scheduled to be open during the Summer and Winter of 2018 and the resulting increase in room count, the destination stands to see even more growth from the extra airlift for the upcoming winter season.”

Currently Antigua and Barbuda is trending up with American Airlines on its Miami route.

American Airlines has expressed excitement about the new service and looks forward to a successful flight beginning this winter.

V.C. Bird International Airport’s growing portfolio of passenger airlines maintains Antigua and Barbuda’s position as a major hub in the Eastern Caribbean.
