American Airlines Caribbean Employee Resource Group makes donations to local Charities

Three worthy charities in Antigua and Barbuda were the recipients of much needed supplies on October 8th, when they received a visit from the employees and guests of the American Airlines Caribbean Employee Resource Group.

Every year the employees select a different island to be the recipient of their “adopt-an-island” project.  This year, the group decided on Antigua, and specifically thought it necessary to visit: The Victory Center, The Fiennes Institute and the Care Project of Antigua.

The group of eight, were led by their Diversity Advisory Council representative and Vice president of the group Varita Shelton.  Included in the group was President Elizabeth Cline and diversity advisory council vice chairperson Yvonne Williams-Walton.

Forty-two boxes  were brought into country with the assistance of the Customs Division and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda. The donated items, which were identified by the various charities as their ‘wish list’ items, ranged from: microwaves, wheelchairs, crayons and pampers.

The group, upon visiting the various centers, recommitted themselves to providing additional items including special beds for The Care Project.

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority is happy that the destination’s relationship with American Airlines allowed us to be identified for such a  worthwhile project, which provides assistance and support where it matters the most.  By getting involved and showing concern for the people within our communities, American Airlines  have demonstrated their commitment to Antigua and Barbuda. As a destination, we are  grateful for their donations to the children and senior citizens in Antigua, which will certainly go a long way in making their lives more comfortable.

In addition to making donations, during their stay the group also had the chance to explore Antigua and Barbuda, and become better acquainted with the sites, amenities and tourism opportunities.   The group stayed at The Verandah Resort & Spa
